Design Residency: Nautical Corner

I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas festivities. I'm excited to be back to my blogging schedule and share the latest Design Residency room. Don't forget to check out Kate's awesome room. I recently discovered Brainstorm. Not only do I love their designs but their website is pretty great too. The Ocean print from their Science collection really grabbed my attention.

The translation: Nautical home decor can get cheesy really quick. Instead of decking out an entire room with sailboats, rope, and stripes I pictured a little reading nook. Maybe this corner is between the dining room and living room. Or maybe it's a wicked small bedroom that doubles as an office. Either way, I'm not telling you to get all gaudy. Wallpaper the main wall with a calming wavy pattern and keep the colors within ocean blues. Pull in the color blocked theme with a decorative vase. Depending on what you drink while reading - coffee, tea, or heck maybe even a beer - store your glassware in a teal cabinet. Cozy up with Moby on a comfy blue chair and you can almost hear the waves in the distance.
