One of the ways I kicked off my 2016 work-year was by creating a custom calligraphy logo for Jen Cooper. If you don't know Jen it's time that you do. Jen is a freelance writer, editor, video producer living in Baltimore, Maryland. She also happens to be my husband's first cousin! Even though we have never met (we're hoping to change that soon!) I've been so inspired by her & her filmmaker/photographer husband Dave Cooper.
I loved being able to create a minimalistic calligraphy logo with a little sass because Jen certainly is unique! We based it off of my custom created "lynn" calligraphy style.
A little Q&A with Jen:
Why did you start jencooper.net?
JEN: I wanted to transition away from writing about kids and family stuff since my kids are older now. This site is a portfolio of the work I’d love to be doing.
What prompted you to choose a calligraphy logo?
JEN: Well, here was my thinking... I wanted to keep things simple and flowing. And I thought about flowing as in "achieving flow.” To me calligraphy is the manifestation of flow. So it was a perfect fit. In fact, there was never a moment’s doubt it was the right way to go.
How would you describe your style - what words would you use?
JEN: I can tell you I’m drawn to: black, white, a touch of pink, Patti Smith, St. Vincent, thoughtful words, great listeners, people who push past fear, flowers in bloom, flowers about to bloom.
What inspires you as a creative?
JEN: People’s stories — the ones they tell and the ones they tell themselves.
