I've been keeping a big secret...and today I can finally announce it. Several months ago I was approached by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY to see if I would be interested in creating and instructing a calligraphy course in 2014. I was so honored, excited, and thrilled that they were interested in my work (especially since I'm a Syracuse calligrapher, and not based in Utica) and were considering me for the position.
After a great meeting I was hired on as a part-time adjunct instructor for the college! Yes I did a little dance! The college catalog just came out and my class is listed...it's all starting to feel real!
Since the calligraphy community in Central New York is pretty slim - I'm really excited to help create one here in my area and to be a resource for others locally who are learning to learn. The class will focus on modern copperplate calligraphy for beginners. The first class will be four 2 hour sessions on Thursdays from 6-8 PM starting April 3 and ending April 24 at MVCC's Utica campus. If you're interested in taking the class you can register online!
For those of you in Syracuse who want to learn calligraphy I have a few things in the works so hang tight - shoot me an email to get on the bedsidesign calligraphy workshop waiting list!
And believe me - as the class approaches I'll share what each calligraphy starter kit will contain, as well as some of my planning process!
